Which Hosting Should I Opt – Linux or Windows VPS

Running a VPS Hosting adds you the various advantages of a dedicated server hosting environment without the cost associated with it. This is one of the main reasons why VPS hosting is ideally preferred by most of the webmasters and power users who already are well experienced with dedicated server hosting.

If you have a few websites and those websites does not requires much resources, VPS hosting adds a great economic advantage over a dedicated servers. VPS Hosting allows you to reload the operating system or even you can install another copy of your choice of operating system, if you encounter any issues with it.

VPS hosting is also ideally suitable for the websites having high resource requirements, but limited budgets. Even if your web hosting requirement is for a powerful websites like e-commerce, still a VPS can help you build your e-commerce website within your capital base. VPS hosting is known for its low cost and lower maintenance approach to get the same features and flexibility a dedicated servers hosting offers. Accounts created on a VPS are totally isolated from other accounts on same VPS as they are created using a special software installed on the server.

Deciding which hosting you should go with depends on the operating system you choose. You can choose either Windows VPS Hosting or Linux VPS Hosting, whichever you are familiar with. However, both of them have their own limitations.

The operating system binds you on a VPS as the node functioning on the operating system don’t allows you to use a different operating system. In simple language, if you manage a VPS on a client which is created under Windows Server 2003, you are only able to select the Windows Server 2003 as your operative group.

Same as windows, if a VPS is featured on a node which is functioning on Linux system, then you can choose only the UNIX  and if you feature a VPS on a node which is working on Linux system then you can only change it to Unix as your operating system.

Well, now most of the VPS Hosting Providers will allow you to install your choice of operating system which are allowed by the web hosting company. Therefore, before signing up for a VPS Hosting plan you need to decide the requirements of your website and your choice of operating system you want to host on your server.

Shared vs. Dedicated Servers Hosting

Dedicated ServersThe type of web hosting you go for, just depends upon exactly what your site is required. Dedicated Servers and shared servers, both have their advantages and disadvantages and you need to decide what is most important for you.

If your requirement is a small website, either business or personal, shared hosting sounds to be a good choice, especially if you are looking to save money. Shared hosting is not as costly as dedicated hosting because you are sharing a server with some more websites and the cost for running the site is divided between the website owners. The prices for shared hosting may vary from just a few dollars a month or may be more than that. This is usually depends upon how many others are sharing the site. There are some disadvantages while using shared server hosting. Most shared hosting sites offer you a limited amount of disk space and bandwidth for your website. Some will even charge more if you use more bandwidth than you are allotted. In addition, you may have to deal with other websites on the server using too much bandwidth, which can make your website run slower and sometimes it may even freeze up.

Dedicated servers mean that your website is having it’s own dedicated server which is not shared with any other websites. This is the most excellent choice of hosting service, most probably if you are planning on having a large website or will have a website that will have a high level of traffic. A dedicated hosting comes with the superior level of service for it’s website owners. They usually have a lot of features available to users which helps to build the site easily. Lots of people experience negative aspects towards dedicated server as because they are generally pretty much expensive. Dedicated servers range from hundred to thousands dollar a year. But if you have bigger websites, either personal or business, it is definitely counts worth for your money. Dedicated servers hosting comes with reliable service and it makes sure that you have a higher amount of uptime on your website.

Going for the right web hosting company is one of the most important thing you need to keep in mind when building your website. If you think that you can’t afford a dedicated host at this point, you can either go for a  shared hosting and save up the money until you can afford dedicated hosting. If your website is small and you think you will not have any problems using a shared host, than you should start looking into companies that offer quality shared hosting. However, if you think that you are going to have a large website, then shared hosting may not work for you, then choosing a dedicated server is going to be a good deal for you.
